Energy, Inc., a global energy technology company and the leading supplier of micro inverter-based solar and battery systems, welcomes Brazil’s new fire safety standard, ABNT NBR 17193. This new regulation introduces stricter safety measures for solar installations in all buildings, including the requirement for rapid shutdown functionality. The new standard focuses on reducing fire risks linked to high-voltage direct current (DC) energy used in traditional solar systems with centralized “string” inverters.

Adriano Coury, CEO of Onway Energy, an installer of Enphase products in Brazil, stated, “Enphase’s micro inverters have revolutionized our approach to solar installations. The low-voltage AC design not only simplifies the installation process but also significantly reduces fire risks to help protect homeowners and emergency response teams.”

João Lucas Silva, CEO of Solusun, an installer of Enphase products in Brazil, said in a statement, “Safety is paramount in our operations. With Enphase’s microinverters, we can offer our clients a solution that complies with the latest safety standards and provides peace of mind.”

Enphase’s micro inverter technology offers a safer alternative by converting low-voltage DC from solar panels into low-voltage alternating current (AC) directly at the panel. This design removes the need for high-voltage DC, making solar installations safer for both homes and businesses. Additionally, every Enphase microinverter includes rapid shutdown functionality — a crucial safety feature that lets the system power down immediately during emergencies. The new regulation recommends that all solar installations in Brazil have this capability before connecting to the grid.

Marcel Ciriaco, founder of EnergySeg, an installer of Enphase’s products in Brazil, remarked, “Enphase’s microinverters arrived in the Brazilian market meeting all safety requirements, ensuring protection for installers and homeowners. The NBR 17193 corroborates the compliance of Enphase’s micro inverters with global safety standards. Therefore, our Enphase customers will continue to benefit from the credibility and technological efficiency of our solution.”

“This critical new safety standard is a significant milestone for the Brazilian solar industry, setting new benchmarks for safety and reliability. Our microinverter technology is designed to meet and exceed these standards, providing Brazilian customers with safe, reliable, and high-performance solar energy solutions,” commented Ken Fong, senior vice president and general manager of the Americas and APAC at Enphase Energy.

These safety improvements not only protect people, property, and emergency responders but also align Brazil with global best practices in solar energy safety. Brazilian installers and distributors can find more information about the new standard on the Enphase website, available in both English and Portuguese. Enphase’s IQ8P™ Microinverters, which support high-powered solar modules with a peak output of 480 W, are available to order in Brazil now. Every IQ8P Microinverter activated in Brazil comes with a 25-year limited warranty, offering long-term peace of mind.
