European electrolysers can beat Chinese competitors on hydrogen production costs, but need more support to deliver value, Thyssenkrupp Nucera CEO Werner Ponikwar told the World Hydrogen Summit.

The German electrolyser boss said that despite the region leading in electrolysis intellectual property and system efficiency, Europe risks accelerating losses in market share.

It comes after the company announced restructuring measures to weather weak demand.

“European electrolysers can beat Chinese peers on levelised cost of hydrogen (LCOH), due to superior efficiency, and in particular, better lifecycle performance,” he said.
