GEAPP Launches 3 Major Initiatives To Drive India’s Energy Transition Forward

The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing India’s clean energy journey by introducing three key initiatives at a high-level meeting in New Delhi. These include the Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) in collaboration with the International Solar Alliance (ISA), DUET (Digitalization of Utilities for Energy Transition), and ENTICE 2.0 (Energy Transitions Innovation Challenge). These efforts aim to close funding gaps, strengthen institutional capacity, and promote scalable, cost-effective solutions for India’s clean energy transition.

As part of its strengthened partnership with ISA, GEAPP signed on to ISA’s Multi-Donor Trust Fund, which seeks to raise $100 million for impactful solar energy projects. ISA will lead the initiative, setting its vision and strategy, while GEAPP will support through governance oversight, fundraising, and its expertise in energy transition planning and implementation. Together, these initiatives are designed to accelerate the deployment of clean energy solutions in India.

Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General, ISA, stated, “This agreement marks an exciting step in our ongoing collaboration with GEAPP to accelerate the clean energy transition. By aligning our efforts through partnership, we are better positioned to deliver sustainable and impactful solutions to countries seeking to scale solar energy. GEAPP’s expertise will help grow the Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) into a powerful tool to deliver renewable energy access in our Member Countries and support the realization of their climate and energy goals.”

The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) is driving India’s clean energy efforts with two innovative programs: DUET and ENTICE 2.0. DUET (Digitalization of Utilities for Energy Transition) focuses on modernizing grid systems by creating a comprehensive digital database of grid assets, including their locations and specifications. These assets will be integrated with live smart sensors to provide real-time data on voltage, current, and phase. The system will help reduce energy losses, optimize battery energy storage system (BESS) deployment, and support decentralized renewable energy (DRE) integration into the grid.

ENTICE 2.0 (Energy Transitions Innovation Challenge), launching in January 2025, is a platform designed to support and scale innovative energy transition solutions. Building on the success of ENTICE 1.0, the program will offer startups access to funding, market connections, and mentorship, with a stronger focus on identifying investable opportunities that contribute to India’s sustainability goals. Through its initiatives like the Multi-Donor Trust Fund, DUET, and ENTICE 2.0, GEAPP demonstrates its commitment to addressing energy access challenges, fostering innovation, and supporting India’s clean energy transition.

Woochong Um, CEO of GEAPP, mentioned, “At GEAPP, we believe that the path to a sustainable and inclusive future lies in accelerating the transition to renewable energy, particularly in emerging markets that are poised to drive global change. The signing of the MDTF with ISA highlights the critical role of strategic alliances in mobilizing resources to accelerate clean energy adoption. Our initiatives, such as ENTICE 2.0 and DUET, aim to foster innovation and deliver scalable solutions that drive sustainable economic growth and empower communities. By alliance with diverse partners, we can unlock the full potential of renewable energy and create a more resilient global energy system.”

Saurabh Kumar, Vice President – India at the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), outlined the Alliance’s three-year strategy and impact goals for India, with a focus on the ENTICE 2.0 program and contributions to Energy Transition Planning (ETP). The stakeholder meeting brought together key industry leaders to discuss a practical roadmap for achieving India’s target of 500 GW renewable energy capacity. The event also marked the visit of Dr. Rajiv J. Shah, President of The Rockefeller Foundation, to India. Dr. Shah highlighted the vital role of philanthropy in driving the global energy transition and supporting India’s clean energy ambitions.
