PM To Lay Foundation Stone For NTPC’s Green Hydrogen Hub At Pudimadaka, Vizag: First Project Under National Green Hydrogen Mission

The Government of India is taking a major step towards green energy and sustainability with the launch of the NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) Green Hydrogen Hub Project at Pudimadaka, near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. On 8th January, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for this landmark initiative, which is India’s first Green Hydrogen Hub under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The project involves a massive investment of approximately ₹1,85,000 Crore, including 20 GW of renewable energy capacity. It will become one of India’s largest green hydrogen production facilities, capable of producing 1,500 tons per day (TPD) of green hydrogen and 7,500 TPD of green hydrogen derivatives like green methanol, green urea, and sustainable aviation fuel, primarily for export.

Spread across 1,600 acres, the project will include a green chemical zone, manufacturing units, chemical storage facilities, port infrastructure, a transmission corridor, a 7 GW substation, an 80 MLD desalination plant, and an effluent treatment plant. The entire framework is set to be completed by 2032.This initiative is expected to create over 57,000 jobs, boosting the local economy and positioning Andhra Pradesh as a global green energy leader. It will also significantly contribute to India’s target of 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030, support decarbonization across industries, and strengthen India’s Net Zero ambitions.
