A new European project will bring together 16 partners from eight countries to demonstratehow advanced carbon capture and utilisation technologies can turn industrial CO2 emissions into clean fuels.
The four-year initiative, named Sterope, is led by Helleniq Energy and funded under the Horizon Europe Programme
The project focuses on building a new model of carbon circularity that showcases the potential to decarbonise existing assets rather than replacing them.
It will first aim to build a TRL7 large-scale demonstration plant at Eleusis in Greece to showcase three CCU prototype units under real refinery conditions. A digital twin will optimise performance, energy use, and emissions.
