Indian stock markets closed lower on October 14, 2026, as benchmark indices recorded modest losses amid mixed movements across sectors. The S&P BSE Sensex declined 0.34% to settle at 72,781.89, while the NIFTY 50 fell 0.43% to close at 22,625.15. Despite the weakness in the broader market, several stocks in the green energy, power and clean technology sectors recorded gains during the trading session.
JSW Energy emerged as one of the leading gainers in the power sector. The stock surged 6.52% on the BSE to close at ₹490.00, while it advanced 6.17% on the NSE to settle at ₹488.90. Websol Energy and Kabra Extrusion also recorded strong performances, with both stocks gaining 5% on the exchanges.
Adani Green Energy shares advanced by more than 2% during the session. The stock traded around ₹1,316 on the BSE and ₹1,313 on the NSE, reflecting buying interest in the renewable energy segment. Tata Power also moved higher, gaining 2.17%, while Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) registered an increase of 1.55%.
Reliance Industries shares rose 0.79%, adding to the positive movement among selected energy-related stocks. The gains across these companies indicated continued investor activity in the power, renewable energy and clean technology segments, even as the benchmark indices remained under pressure.
However, several companies ended the session in negative territory. Exide Industries was among the notable laggards, declining 3.15% on the BSE to close at ₹383.00. On the NSE, the stock fell 2.92%, reflecting selling pressure in the battery and energy storage segment.
NTPC Green Energy Ltd. also recorded a decline. Its shares dropped 1.12% on the BSE to settle at ₹91.78, while the stock slipped 1.11% on the NSE. The movement came despite gains in other renewable energy stocks during the session.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) shares declined by around 1%, while GAIL fell approximately 0.77%. Amara Raja Energy & Mobility and Inox Wind also traded near flat to negative levels, indicating mixed performance across industrial, battery and wind energy-related companies.
The session highlighted the selective nature of trading in India’s green energy and power stocks. While JSW Energy, Websol Energy, Kabra Extrusion and Adani Green Energy attracted buying interest, losses in Exide Industries and NTPC Green Energy reflected continued pressure on selected counters.
Investors continue to monitor broader market trends, company announcements and developments in the renewable energy sector. As India expands its clean energy capacity and storage infrastructure, stock movements remain influenced by company-specific factors, market valuations and overall investor sentiment.
