Green Energy Stocks Trade Mixed As Investors Show Selective Buying Interest (20 May 2026)

A detailed graph showing the mixed performance of green energy stocks in May 2026.

The green energy sector witnessed mixed trading activity on May 20, 2026, as investors showed selective interest across renewable energy, power, and electric mobility stocks. While the broader Indian stock market remained positive throughout the day, clean energy companies experienced varied movements, highlighting cautious investor sentiment in the sector.

Among the top gainers, Insolation Energy emerged as one of the strongest performers, rising more than 3% on both major exchanges and closing near Rs 135.30. Diversified conglomerate Reliance Industries also supported market momentum with a sharp gain of nearly 2.9%, ending the session at Rs 1,360.35 on the BSE. Power trading platform Indian Energy Exchange and JSW Energy managed to stay in positive territory with modest gains of 0.20% and 0.71%, respectively. Electric vehicle manufacturer Olectra Greentech remained largely stable and closed slightly higher by 0.15% at Rs 1,221.55.

However, several renewable energy stocks ended the day under pressure. Borosil Renewables became one of the biggest losers in the segment, falling 2.43% to close at Rs 514.00 on the BSE. NTPC Green Energy also witnessed weakness, declining 1.67% to settle at Rs 105.95. Renewable power major Adani Green Energy slipped 1.05%, while Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy dropped 1.39% during the session.

Wind energy company Inox Wind and solar component manufacturer Websol Energy also traded lower. Meanwhile, utility and infrastructure giants Tata Power and Larsen and Toubro witnessed mild profit-booking. In the traditional energy segment, GAIL edged lower, whereas Indian Oil Corporation gained over 2%. Battery makers Exide Industries and Amara Raja Energy also ended slightly weak.

Despite the mixed performance in green energy stocks, the broader market remained firm. The Sensex closed 0.17% higher at 75,330.06, while the Nifty 50 gained 0.18% to end at 23,659.50. Market trends indicated that investors are increasingly focusing on company-specific fundamentals rather than treating the renewable energy sector as a single investment theme.
