Swedish green hydrogen e-fuels developer Liquid Wind has filed for bankruptcy just days after submitting environmental applications for its revived flagship project, according to local reports.

Reports state that the firm, which is developing multiple green hydrogen-based e-methanol projects in the Nordics, filed for bankruptcy in the Gothenburg District Court. H2 View has contacted Liquid Wind for confirmation.

The company’s portfolio includes four projects in Sweden and one in Finland, all of which plan to produce 100,000 tonnes of e-methanol per year using green hydrogen and capture carbon dioxide.

Just last week, Liquid Wind applied for an environmental permit for a revived plant in Örnsköldsvik being developed with Övik Energy.

It came as a new vision for the project, which was originally named FlagshipOne, after it was scrapped by developer Ørsted in 2024, after it bought Liquid Wind out of the development after taking final investment decision in 2022.

Liquid Wind CEO Claes Fredriksson told H2 View at the time that there was sufficient demand for e-methanol for the shipping sector to justify its planned projects.

H2 View will update this story with any additional information.
