Elcogen has revealed a new solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and electrolyser (SOEC) stack for fuel-flexible power generation and green hydrogen production.
The elcoStack E3000 G2 operates at 650–750ºC for electrolysis and can also function in fuel cell mode using fuels including hydrogen, biofuels, and natural gas for power generation.
It builds on the firm’s existing E3000 platform, and offers improved manufacturability, performance, cost, durability, and versatility, according to the Estonian technology fim.
In electrolysis mode, it can achieve an efficiency of 33kWh/kg of hydrogen, while during power generation, it delivers up to 75% electrical efficiency, or up to 90% when using waste heat.
Elcogen’s online statement positions the stack primarily for on-site power generation in sectors like data centres, following the suit of other SOFC players in recent years, targeting initial operation on natural gas.
Enn Õunpuu, CEO of Elcogen, said the technology is timely in its arrival and can support industries which increasingly target decarbonisation through reliable on-site power.
It follows Elcogen’s February launch of a with JNK India, a heating equipment supplier, aimed at solid oxide technology opportunities.
The Estonian company also upped its manufacturing capacity from 10MW to 360MW with the reveal of its Tallinn SOFC and SOEC in September 2025.
Solid oxide systems are gaining traction in both energy generation and hydrogen production, achieving some of the highest efficiency rates across both categories.
UK technology licensor Ceres a similar solid oxide stack capable of power generation and hydrogen production. It also signed a with Centrica for exploring natural gas-fuelled fuel cells to help meet onsite power generation for European data centres and industrial sites.
