Hopewind Revolutionizes Renewable Grid Stability with Pioneering Grid-Forming Technology

As global energy systems transition toward renewables, grid instability remains a critical challenge. Hopewind addresses this frontier with its groundbreaking grid-forming technology – transforming wind, solar, and storage assets into resilient grid anchors. Validated as China’s only manufacturer certified for full-scenario grid-forming in both wind and solar, Hopewind is redefining renewable integration.

Technical Imperative Validated by Grid Vulnerabilities

Traditional “grid-following” inverters – dependent on external grid signals for synchronization – increasingly contribute to instability in renewable-heavy networks. The Spanish grid outage happened in April 28th underscored conventional systems’ vulnerabilities, highlighting the urgency for autonomous stabilization solutions.

Hopewind’s grid-forming technology fundamentally transforms renewable assets into grid-stabilizing resources. Its enhanced current capacity delivers robust fault support.Unlike grid-following systems that reactively detect frequency changes, Hopewind’s solution proactively regulates grid frequency through primary frequency regulation, virtual inertia response, and instantaneous phase-jump compensation. The technology further provides active voltage stabilization with autonomous correction of voltage deviations, while demonstrating exceptional weak-grid adaptability—maintaining stable operation at short-circuit ratios (SCR) as low as 1.1.

Critically, by eliminating stability-driven power curtailment constraints inherent in grid-following systems, Hopewind’s grid-forming units maximize renewable energy harvest and significantly improve project economics.

Industry Endorsements and Recognition

The internationally renowned institution DNV awarded Hopewind the world’s first grid-forming converter certification, validating compliance with next-generation grid requirements for renewable-dominant systems.

Grid-forming Converter Certification

In September 2024, Hopewind’s Main Power Source-Type Wind-Solar Power Stations technology passed the scientific achievement appraisal by the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE). These independent validations confirm Hopewind’s dual leadership in grid-forming innovation and large-scale implementation.

Pioneering Grid-Forming Deployments

Hopewind has achieved multiple China’s firsts in grid-forming technology deployment. In Gansu Province, the company commissioned the world’s first 100MW grid-forming wind farm, validated through 530+ rigorous tests including black-start capability and transient-state trials. Simultaneously in Xinjiang Province, Hopewind powered China’s first grid-forming PV station using 320kW inverters – a system proven across 209 operating conditions while enabling ecological restoration through pastoral-photovoltaic complementarity.

Grid-forming Wind Power Farm

The technology extends to energy storage at scale, with bulk deployments of string and central PCS solutions including Xinjiang’s 50MW/100MWh and Yunnan’s 40MW/80MWh projects. Most recently, Hopewind co-developed the world’s first 40MWh grid-forming sodium-ion battery system with CSG Energy Storage and Xuda New Energy, demonstrating innovative applications for weak-grid stabilization.

Global Pathway Forward

These achievements establish Hopewind as the only manufacturer capable of delivering full-scenario grid-forming solutions across wind, solar, and storage domains in China.

The company is now expanding strategic collaborations with utilities and developers across Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America to deploy its technology in markets targeting high renewable penetration.
