Iberdrola España and Mercadona Expand Clean Energy Partnership with Over 300 MW in New PPAs

Iberdrola España, the Spanish subsidiary of Iberdrola, and leading retailer Mercadona have signed a new long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for over 300 MW of wind and solar capacity. The clean energy will support Mercadona’s operations across its logistics centres and supermarket network in Spain and Portugal.

For years, the two companies have partnered to enhance energy services. Iberdrola currently manages the supply, installation, and operation of up to 3,500 electric vehicle charging points at 800 Mercadona stores, significantly contributing to the development of the public EV charging infrastructure.

A global leader in renewable energy, Iberdrola has extensive experience in structuring PPAs across multiple markets, including Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, the UK, the US, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia. The company has offered innovative PPA solutions for more than a decade, covering both onshore and offshore wind as well as solar projects.

Iberdrola’s corporate energy clients include global names such as Amazon—with PPAs across Spain, Portugal, and the UK linked to the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm—alongside Google, Bayer, BP, Telefónica, and Salzgitter, in addition to a growing base of local partners.
