Indian Green Energy And Power Stocks End Mixed As Select Battery And Renewable Shares Gain (21 July 2026)

Indian green energy and power sector stocks ended the trading session on a mixed note, reflecting the cautious mood seen across the broader Indian equity markets. Benchmark indices closed lower, with the S&P BSE SENSEX declining 0.31% to settle around 77,470, while the NIFTY 50 slipped 0.22% to close at 24,185.85. Despite the weak overall market sentiment, several renewable energy, battery, and clean technology companies managed to post gains, while others witnessed profit-booking.

Among the best-performing stocks in the sector, Kabra Extrusion emerged as the top gainer, rising 2.1% during the session. Battery manufacturer Exide Industries also recorded a strong performance, gaining more than 1.5% to close at ₹443.25 on the BSE and ₹443.90 on the NSE. The stock attracted buying interest as investors remained optimistic about the long-term growth prospects of the energy storage and electric mobility segments.

Electric bus manufacturer Olectra Greentech also ended the day in positive territory, advancing around 0.74% to ₹1,356.20. Adani Green Energy gained approximately 0.71% to close at ₹1,541.00, while NTPC Green Energy Ltd edged up about 0.60% to ₹92.50. Public sector companies expanding their clean energy portfolios also witnessed modest gains. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) rose 0.67%, followed by GAIL, which added 0.26%. Engineering major Larsen & Toubro also maintained a positive trend, closing 0.30% higher at ₹3,851.00.

On the downside, several renewable energy and power companies faced selling pressure as investors booked profits. Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd recorded the steepest decline among the sector stocks, falling 2.77% on the BSE to ₹208.60 and more than 3.2% on the NSE. Solar cell and module manufacturer Websol Energy also witnessed weakness, declining 2.29% to ₹100.10.

Reliance Industries, which continues to expand its renewable energy business, slipped 1.42% to close at ₹1,304.40. Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) declined 0.80% to ₹124.70, while Tata Power and JSW Energy fell 0.87% and 0.66%, respectively. Biofuel company Praj Industries eased 0.34% to ₹336.30, and wind energy equipment manufacturer Inox Wind slipped marginally by 0.16% to ₹79.10.

Overall, the session reflected a cautious investment environment as weakness in the benchmark indices limited gains across the sector. However, selective buying in battery manufacturers, electric mobility companies, and clean energy developers indicated that investors continue to remain positive on the long-term growth potential of India’s renewable energy and energy transition industries.
