KNESS Baltic has announced plans to implement a large-scale energy storage project, deploying more than 55 MWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) integrated with existing solar power plants across the country.

The storage systems will be co-located within six operational solar power plants with a combined capacity of 55 MW, all previously developed by KNESS Baltic. The project is backed by Volterra Energy Group, a long-term strategic partner and renewable energy producer.

The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening Latvia’s energy infrastructure by enhancing grid stability, improving renewable energy integration, and increasing overall project efficiency. Co-located storage solutions are expected to play a critical role in balancing supply and demand, particularly as the share of intermittent renewable energy sources continues to grow.

Commenting on the development, Sergii Shakalov highlighted that energy storage systems are central to the company’s strategic direction, enabling flexible grid operations and supporting the transition toward a more modern and resilient power system.

He further noted that KNESS is leveraging its engineering expertise and experience from implementing energy storage solutions in Ukraine to expand into the Latvian market, with a focus on scaling projects that contribute to broader power sector modernization.

The project underscores the increasing importance of battery storage in Europe’s renewable energy landscape, as countries accelerate efforts to build more stable, efficient, and low-carbon electricity systems.
