French green hydrogen producer Lhyfe has partnered with construction firm Strabag to develop future projects as German demand rises due to usage mandates in transport.
While details of specific sites remain undisclosed, the co-development agreement targets “identification, development and execution” of prospect production projects.
It comes as Germany transposes EU green hydrogen mandates under the Renewable Energy Directive III into law, which will require green hydrogen to make up 10% of transport energy by 2040.
Luc Graré, CEO of Lhyfe, previously said these extra requirements are projected to generate demand for around 19,000 tonnes of renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO) compliant hydrogen “immediately.”
Strabag, which provides engineering, procurement, construction, and infrastructure services, civil works at OMV’s 140MW green hydrogen plant in Austria.
Graré said the partnership, which initially focuses on Germany but could extend across Europe, comes at a pivotal time, laying groundwork for new project development and execution.
The French producer already operates five green hydrogen plants across France and Germany with a combined output of up to 8.5 tonnes per day of renewable fuels of non-biological origin-certified hydrogen.
It recently to supply the molecule to BMW in Austria for testing and validation of fuel cell systems for the auto major’s incoming hydrogen passenger car, as well as an for supplying France’s “first” motorway hydrogen refuelling station.
