Localise to navigate supply chain uncertainties, says Messer

Global uncertainties, including geopolitical trade tensions and conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, have creating challenges and uncertainties in specialty gases that will require more creativity and flexibility from key players in the years ahead.

The assessment was made by Virginia Esly, Chief Operating Officer for Europe at the privately held industrial gas major Messer SE & Co, presenting to delegates in a keynote address on day three at the Specialty Gas Summit 2025 in Utrecht.

“It is a volatile environment today, but businesses need stability. We all feel it, and must find a way,” said Esly.

She highlighted how the current hard-to-predict trade war started by US President Donald Trump had added to uncertainties, leading to extra issues that have at times impacted trade flows and clearance times, with greater risks of bottlenecks.
