Mainstream Renewable Power, a global wind and solar company majority-owned by Aker Horizons ASA, has appointed Morten Henriksen as its new Group CEO, effective April 1, 2025. Henriksen is currently the CEO of Gassnova, Norway’s state enterprise for carbon capture and storage, and has extensive leadership experience in the energy sector, including roles at Arendals Fossekompani and Statkraft. Mary Quaney, the current CEO, will stay on as a Senior Advisor to support the transition before stepping down in the second half of 2025 to explore new opportunities.

Mainstream’s Chairman, Kristian Røkke, mentioned, “We would like to express our gratitude to Mary for her leadership over the last five years. She has guided Mainstream’s global team with focus, resilience and integrity, navigating a period of industry-wide transformation. As we enter a new phase, Morten brings extensive experience and deep sector expertise to position Mainstream for growth. His leadership will be instrumental in executing the Company’s strategy and driving Mainstream’s growth in the global energy market.”

Morten Henriksen, said in a statement, “Mainstream is well positioned for the opportunities ahead. I am very excited about implementing our vision to build a lean and focused renewable energy company, leading in our core markets and creating value through strong project execution, a lean cost base and capital efficiency.”

As part of its updated strategy, Mainstream is focusing on three key markets—South Africa, Australia, and the Philippines—while working towards significant cost reductions. To streamline operations and benefit from Aker Horizons’ resources, the company will move its headquarters from Dublin to Oslo in early 2025. This move aligns with its goal to cut costs by about 65% by 2026 compared to 2023 levels.
