The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has announced the launch of the Large Scale Solar (LSS-6) bidding round, scheduled for the second quarter of 2025. The initiative is part of Malaysia’s efforts to increase its renewable energy capacity and transition towards cleaner energy sources.
In addition to the LSS-6 bidding round, PETRA will introduce a separate bidding round for energy storage systems by the third quarter of 2025. This move aims to strengthen the stability of Malaysia’s national grid and improve the integration of renewable energy sources.
PETRA’s efforts are in line with Malaysia’s long-term goal of achieving a 70 percent renewable energy mix by 2050. The ministry is also focusing on expanding the Community Renewable Energy Aggregation Mechanism (CREAM), which promotes solar power generation through residential rooftop installations.
These initiatives are expected to significantly contribute to reducing Malaysia’s carbon footprint and advancing the country’s environmental sustainability goals.
