Maxeon Solar Technologies, Ltd., and Shanghai Aiko Solar Energy Co., Ltd. have announced that they have reached a formal agreement on patent licensing related to back contact (BC) solar technology. Under this agreement, Aiko will receive a license to use Maxeon’s BC solar cell and module patents outside the United States. The license covers both existing patents and any new BC-related patents that Maxeon adds over the next five years.

As part of the agreement, Maxeon has agreed to fully withdraw and end all current and potential patent enforcement actions against Aiko. In return, Aiko has agreed to withdraw and terminate all efforts to challenge or invalidate Maxeon’s patents. This mutual withdrawal brings an end to patent-related disputes between the two companies concerning BC technology.

Both companies said the agreement reflects their respect for intellectual property and its role in driving innovation. By resolving patent differences through licensing rather than legal action, the companies aim to create a more stable and cooperative environment for technology development.

The agreement is expected to support wider adoption of advanced BC solar technologies and encourage further innovation in the global solar industry. It also highlights the growing importance of patent protection and collaboration as solar technologies continue to evolve and scale worldwide.
