Member Company of ESMC Secures €10 Million Grant for 2.5 GW Solar Module Facility in Spain

MCPV, a member company of the European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC), has secured a €10 million grant to aid the establishment of a 2.5 GW solar module production facility in Tudela, Spain. This financial support represents a major step forward in MCPV’s goal of creating a strong, next-gen solar manufacturing hub within Europe.

Marc Rechter, CEO of the Netherlands-based company, expressed gratitude for the funding and emphasized MCPV’s enthusiasm to accelerate the development, construction, and operation of large-scale, cost-effective solar cell and module manufacturing in Europe.

The grant comes as part of a nearly €300 million funding initiative announced in March by Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO). The chosen initiatives are seen as vital to advancing Spain’s renewable energy transition. MCPV has also received backing from the Dutch National Growth Fund to build a 4 GW solar cell manufacturing plant in Veendam, Netherlands. Combined, the projects are pivotal to Europe’s strategy for regaining energy independence and technological leadership in the solar PV sector.

Specializing in silicon heterojunction (HJT) technology, MCPV intends to bring both facilities online by 2029. Construction on the Veendam plant is expected to commence in late 2026, with the Tudela module factory starting development a year after. Permitting processes are already in progress at both sites.

Marc Rechter emphasized that every crisis throughout history has also brought opportunities. He noted that Europe is now fostering an environment where industries, innovators, and entrepreneurs can capitalize on these opportunities to build the industries of the future. He added that the support for MCPV’s projects demonstrates the significant interest in the company’s advanced solar technologies.

Founded in 2020 by Marc Rechter, Natalie Samovich, Prof. Dr. Eicke Weber, and Dr. Benjamin Strahm, MCPV has spent recent years crafting a business and technology strategy for launching large-scale, greenfield solar PV cell and module manufacturing in Veendam (Netherlands) and Navarra (Spain). The company is focused on bringing the PV industry back to Europe using cutting-edge heterojunction (HJT) technology.
