Ministry of Power Advances India Energy Stack with REC-Led Taskforce Meeting

The Ministry of Power, Government of India, convened a key meeting of the India Energy Stack (IES) Taskforce to accelerate the development of a unified Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the country’s power sector. The initiative is being advanced with REC Limited as the Nodal Agency and FSR Global as the Knowledge Partner.

The meeting focused on reviewing the draft IES Strategy Document (v0.1) and IES Architecture Document (v0.1), which form the foundational framework for the initiative. Taskforce members, comprising domain experts from technology, regulatory bodies, and the power sector, engaged in detailed discussions to provide strategic guidance and recommendations for refinement.

Key Participants and Leadership

The Taskforce meeting was chaired by Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma (Former DG, UIDAI; Former CEO, National Health Authority) with Sh. Pramod Verma (Co-founder, FIDE; former Chief Architect, Aadhaar) as Chief Architect, and Sh. Pradeep Kumar Pujari (Distinguished Fellow, FSR Global; Former Chairman CERC, Former Secretary Power) as Vice Chair. Members included top officials from CEA, REC Limited, IEEMA, NITI Aayog, and other leading institutions.

Shri Jitendra Srivastava, CMD of REC Limited, described the meeting as a “pivotal milestone” in building a unified, open, and future-ready digital backbone for India’s energy sector. He emphasized that inputs from the Taskforce would be critical in shaping the pilot phase and consolidating the IES framework.

India Energy Stack: A Digital Backbone for Power Sector

The IES is envisioned as a secure, interoperable DPI that connects stakeholders, assets, and data across the energy ecosystem. By adopting common digital protocols, open APIs, and federated registries, the initiative aims to:

-Bridge existing silos in the sector

-Enable real-time data exchange and transparency

-Foster innovation and operational efficiency for DISCOMs

-Accelerate integration of renewable energy and green energy markets

-Deliver consumer-centric, reliable, and affordable power services

Experts noted that IES could achieve the same transformative impact for India’s power sector as Aadhaar did for identity verification and UPI for digital payments.

Next Steps and Timeline

The Taskforce will meet monthly to ensure timely progress. The IES pilot phase will commence following refinement of the foundational documents, with the project scheduled for completion by July 2026.
