The Norwegian arm of industrial gas major Nippon Gases will open a new air separation unit (ASU) at the Viganeset industrial area in Hjelmeland, Norway, to supply the aquaculture sector and other industries in the region.
The new NOK400m ($40m) plant, which will be the company’s fourth ASU in the country, aims to improve supply security for oxygen-dependent industries such as land-based fish farming.
The site of Viganeset was chosen for the plant following an agreement between Nippon Gases Norway, the Hjelmeland municipality, and the local aquaculture operator Ardal Aqua.
“With a central location in an up-and-coming region, we can deliver industrial gases to our customers quicker and with less environmental impact,” said Lars Borgli, Managing Director of Nippon Gases Norway.
