North American storage of DAC carbon is milestone moment

Montreal-based carbon removal developer Deep Sky has completed North America’s first underground storage of carbon dioxide derived from direct air capture (DAC).

The gas was captured by Skyrenu, a Quebec-based DAC company, at Deep Sky Alpha’s Innisfail, Alberta carbon removal centre, which is powered by solar energy.

It is believed to be the first time on the continent that CO2 captured by a Canadian-developed DAC technology has gone through the full carbon removal cycle.

Gabriel Vézina, Skyrenu CEO, said Deep Sky’s ability to integrate the full value chain, from CO2 capture to sequestration, complemented Skyrenu’s focus on nce DAC.
