Northern Solar Secures RM34 Million EPCC Contract For 9.50 MW Solar PV Project in Malaysia

Northern Solar Holdings Berhad has secured a RM34 million contract for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) of a 9.50 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, further expanding its presence in Malaysia’s large-scale solar market. The award was confirmed through a Letter of Award (LOA) accepted by the Group’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Northern Solar Sdn Bhd.

The project is scheduled to achieve commercial operation no later than 1 May 2027. According to the company, the contract is expected to contribute positively to its earnings and net assets per share from the financial year ending 31 March 2027 onwards. The identity of the awarding party has not been disclosed due to confidentiality provisions included in the LOA.

The latest contract adds to Northern Solar’s growing portfolio of utility-scale solar projects. In March 2026, the Group secured RM119.4 million worth of awards related to Malaysia’s Large Scale Solar 5 (LSS5) programme. These projects are currently in the delivery phase. With the latest RM34 million award, the combined value of these recent large-scale solar assignments has reached approximately RM153.4 million.

As of 30 June 2026, Northern Solar reported an unbilled order book of RM189.3 million, providing visibility into its future revenue pipeline. The company continues to undertake solar projects across commercial, industrial and residential segments while expanding its capabilities in utility-scale developments.

Commenting on the latest contract, Managing Director Lew Shoong Kai said the award strengthens the Group’s large-scale solar business and builds on its engineering and project-delivery experience across different customer segments. He highlighted that the company would prioritise project quality, timely execution, cost management, working capital discipline and control of execution risks.

The company also highlighted Malaysia’s improving renewable energy market, supported by developments under the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS). The scheme enables renewable energy developers to supply electricity directly to corporate consumers through the national grid.

On 18 September 2026, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) announced the CRESS Acceleration Package to improve project financing prospects and support the development of additional renewable energy capacity. Under the package, the system access charge for eligible firm electricity supply has been reduced from 20 sen per kWh to 14 sen per kWh. It also introduces a ten-year contractual period for eligible projects, which must achieve commercial operation by 31 December 2028.

PETRA reported that registered developers and consumers represented a combined project capacity of 3,148 MW, indicating growing market interest in corporate renewable energy procurement.

Lew said lower grid-access charges and longer contractual certainty could improve project financing and encourage construction activity, creating additional demand for solar EPCC services. Northern Solar also plans to explore opportunities in larger solar developments and solar-plus-storage systems while remaining selective about projects based on technical capabilities, execution capacity and commercial viability.

The Group will continue focusing on project delivery while pursuing opportunities in distributed and large-scale solar, energy storage and renewable energy asset ownership.
