OCI Energy, a leading clean energy developer based in San Antonio, Texas, and Arava Power, a pioneer in Israel’s solar energy sector, have announced their second partnership to advance renewable energy. The two companies have formed a joint venture to develop Project SunRoper, a large-scale 260 MWac solar farm in Wharton County, Texas. Situated approximately 60 miles southwest of downtown Houston, Project SunRoper will play a crucial role in supplying clean energy to one of the most electricity-intensive regions in Texas and the United States.

The project aligns with the growing demand for renewable energy infrastructure and supports Texas’ efforts to enhance its clean energy capacity. Construction for Project SunRoper is scheduled to begin in 2025, marking a significant milestone in OCI Energy and Arava Power’s commitment to expanding sustainable energy solutions in the U.S. market. Through this collaboration, both companies aim to accelerate the transition to renewable power and contribute to a more sustainable energy future.

Sabah Bayatli, President, OCI Energy, said in a statement, “The partnership between OCI Energy and Arava Power reflects our shared vision for advancing solar energy solutions and enhancing grid reliability in high-demand markets. Project SunRoper represents a significant step forward to drive economic growth and energy security across communities in Texas and beyond, advancing our mission to enable a sustainable, prosperous future.”

“We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with OCI Energy. Project SunRoper is a shining example of Arava Power’s long-term growth strategy in the US market. Our fruitful cooperation with OCI Energy and the exceptional synergy between our teams have been instrumental in our success. By harnessing our extensive experience with Project SunRay and leveraging our strong partnerships, we are confident that this collaboration will pave the path to a successful and sustainable future,” mentioned Ilan Zidkony, CEO, Arava Power.

OCI Energy and Arava Power are continuing their strong partnership with this new joint venture. Their collaboration began in 2021 when Arava Power acquired OCI Energy’s Project SunRay, a 200 MWac solar farm in Uvalde County, Texas. The project became operational in September 2024. With their combined expertise, the two companies aim to deliver reliable clean energy while boosting Texas’ domestic energy supply. Project SunRoper will help lower emissions, provide affordable electricity, and support the local economy by creating jobs and attracting investments. For this transaction, Sidley Austin LLP advised OCI Energy, while Norton Rose Fulbright represented Arava Power.
