Ormat Technologies Inc., a leader in geothermal and renewable energy, has announced the start of commercial operations for its Montague energy storage facility in New Jersey. This 20 MW/20 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will support the PJM merchant market by providing essential ancillary services. The Montague project, expected to qualify for a 30% Investment Tax Credit, highlights Ormat’s focus on expanding its Energy Storage segment in key U.S. markets. With this addition, Ormat’s total capacity in the PJM market has grown to 120 MW/120 MWh.

With the addition of Montague, Ormat now operates 290 MW/658 MWh of energy storage projects, and we have several additional projects currently under construction, demonstrating our strong development capabilities and commitment to achieving our 950 MW-1050 MW/2.5GWh-2.9GWh 2028 energy storage portfolio capacity target.”
