Port of Antwerp–Bruges is targeting hydrogen imports and carbon dioxide exports as it aims to position itself as Europe’s chemical and logistics hub.
By 2030, it aims to import one million tonnes of hydrogen and derivates a year – not only for Belgium, but also as an energy source for industrial clusters in Germany and in other parts of Europe.
It is building a large-scale carbon transport network and investing in facilities for importing low-carbon hydrogen, ammonia, methanol and biofuels.
“All these projects are actively enabling the European Clean Industrial Deal, the focus of which is to create a competitive and climate-neutral industry, to become a reality,” it said in a statement.
