Quinbrook’s Supernode BESS Reaches Stage 2 Commercial Operation, Secures A$469 Million Stage 3 Financing With CATL as Storage Supplier

Quinbrook’s Supernode battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Queensland, Australia, has reached Stage 2 commercial operation and achieved financial close on A$469 million in debt financing for Stage 3, marking another milestone in the phased development of the energy storage campus.

Located at Brendale, north of Brisbane, Supernode is adjacent to the South Pine substation, a key node in Queensland’s power system. The project is planned to exceed 3 GWh of total capacity, with its first three stages expected to reach 780 MW/3,074 MWh. Capacity across the three stages has been contracted under long-term offtake arrangements.

The Stage 3 financing brings total project financing for Supernode’s first three stages to approximately A$1.2 billion. Quinbrook said the development is progressing alongside Queensland’s accelerating energy transition and growing investment in energy infrastructure.

CATL is serving as the core energy storage system supplier across all three stages. It has supplied EnerC Plus systems for Stages 1 and 2 and will provide TENER S systems for Stage 3. CATL is also supporting the project through a Long-Term Service Agreement covering condition monitoring, performance tracking, fault response and preventive maintenance.

The project has been designed to maximise storage capacity within the available industrial site. CATL said its EnerC Plus system enables back-to-back installation and can reduce the required site footprint by approximately 20% compared with EnerC.

CATL and Quinbrook are also evaluating EnerQB, an eight-hour battery storage solution, for potential future stages of the Supernode development.
