Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., has received a Development Consent Order (DCO) for its large-scale Tillbridge solar and battery storage project in Lincolnshire, marking a major step in the company’s UK expansion strategy. The approval was issued by the UK Secretary of State for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

The project—developed through a joint venture between Recurrent Energy and Tribus Clean Energy—will combine 800 MW of solar PV with 500 MW / 1,000 MWh of battery energy storage, positioning it among the UK’s largest hybrid renewable energy facilities. The site will be located several miles east of Gainsborough.

Once operational, Tillbridge is expected to generate 857.6 GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to powering nearly 300,000 UK homes. Over its lifetime, the project is projected to avoid more than 15 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions and create around 1,250 construction jobs.

Beyond energy generation, the project includes significant biodiversity and community benefits, including a minimum 64.44% net biodiversity gain, new green corridors to boost ecological connectivity, and enhanced recreational trails for local residents. Recurrent Energy noted that the project will strengthen the UK’s supply of secure, low-carbon energy, supporting national Net Zero commitments.

Commenting on the approval, Ismael Guerrero, CEO of Recurrent Energy, said: “Tillbridge represents a major step forward in supporting the UK’s clean energy transition, strengthening grid reliability while delivering tangible community and environmental benefits.”
