Reliance Infrastructure has secured a major clean energy contract from state-owned NHPC, strengthening its position in India’s renewable energy sector. The company announced that it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) for the development of a 390 MW interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar power project paired with a 780 MWhr Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Awarded through an e-reverse auction, the project achieved a winning tariff of ₹3.13 per kWh, making it one of the most competitively priced offerings in the country’s renewable energy space. The tender attracted significant interest, with 15 bidders participating and 14 qualifying for the final auction stage, signalling a strong appetite for large-scale, dispatchable clean energy projects.

Once completed, the project will deliver 700 MWp of solar DC capacity in addition to 780 MWhr of battery storage, making it one of the largest integrated solar-plus-storage initiatives in India. Reliance Infrastructure stated that this addition will consolidate its leadership in the new energy segment and significantly expand its clean energy portfolio.

With this latest award, the broader Reliance Group will exceed 3 GWp of solar capacity and 3.5 GWhr of energy storage in its overall renewable energy pipeline. Its listed subsidiary, Reliance Power, currently operates around 2.5 GWp of solar capacity and 2.5 GWhr of storage, underscoring the group’s growing commitment to sustainable infrastructure.

Industry analysts view this award as a major milestone for the Indian energy transition, as it demonstrates both competitive pricing and increased confidence in large-scale renewable-plus-storage solutions.
