Indian Markets Slip As Green Energy Stocks Deliver Mixed Performance (03 September 2026)

Indian stock markets closed lower today as selling pressure weighed on key benchmark indices, although selected green energy and power sector stocks attracted buying interest. The S&P BSE Sensex declined 0.55% to close at 76,152.86 points, while the NIFTY 50 slipped 0.04% to settle at 23,904.10 points.

The renewable energy and power equipment segment delivered a mixed performance. Inox Wind emerged as the strongest performer, gaining more than 5% to trade at ₹73.95 on the BSE and ₹74.50 on the NSE. Websol Energy System also witnessed strong buying, rising nearly 4.7% on both exchanges to around ₹77.38.

Praj Industries advanced more than 2.4% on the BSE to close at ₹342.30, supported by positive investor interest. Borosil Renewables gained 1.41% on the BSE, ending at ₹502.75. Other stocks, including Olectra Greentech, Tata Power, Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, and NTPC Green Energy, recorded modest gains of less than 1%.

However, the broader green energy basket also faced profit booking. Insolation Energy declined 1.06% on the BSE to ₹88.50, while Amara Raja Energy & Mobility fell more than 1.2% on the NSE to close at ₹860.20.

Among major market players, Adani Green Energy declined nearly 0.9% on the NSE to ₹1,284.00. Exide Industries slipped around 0.6% on both exchanges to close near ₹423.00. Reliance Industries fell 0.92% on the BSE to ₹1,301.05.

Larsen & Toubro showed mixed trading across exchanges. The stock declined 0.61% on the BSE to ₹3,965.00 but gained 0.30% on the NSE, reaching ₹3,992.80.

In the public sector and power trading segment, GAIL gained up to 0.99% on the BSE, while Indian Oil Corporation recorded limited movement. Indian Energy Exchange remained largely steady, with a marginal decline on the BSE and a small gain on the NSE.

Overall, the session highlighted a stock-specific trend in the renewable energy market, with investors selectively favouring wind, solar and clean-energy manufacturing companies despite weakness in the broader market.
