Global industrial tech firm Schneider Electric has teamed up with direct air capture (DAC) supplier Climeworks to remove 31,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere by 2039.
The multi-year offtake deal is Schneider Electric’s first purchase of carbon removal, contributing towards its Net Zero commitments as it strives for a 90% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.
The CO2 will be removed using DAC and storage, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) and enhanced rock weathering.
The carbon removal credits issued from the projects will ‘neutralise a portion’ of the estimate residual emissions.
