Sembcorp Gets Conditional Approval for 300 MW Malaysia-Singapore Renewable Power Project, with 2.2 GWp Floating Solar and 4.3 GWh BESS

Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, has received Conditional Approval from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) for a 300 MW renewable power import project from Peninsular Malaysia to Singapore.

The project will be supported by a large-scale renewable energy development at the Linggiu Reservoir in Johor, Malaysia, comprising an approximately 2.2 GWp floating solar photovoltaic system and up to 4.3 GWh of battery energy storage capacity. The development is being undertaken by Sembcorp in partnership with KPRJ Environment Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor, and Qua Energy. Operations are expected to commence in 2029.

The project is designed to serve electricity demand in both Singapore and Malaysia and will use existing and planned subsea interconnection infrastructure to facilitate cross-border electricity flows. The development is also expected to strengthen regional power connectivity and support the integration of renewable energy into the regional electricity system.

Sembcorp said the project will support growing electricity demand from data centres, AI-related industries and other energy-intensive sectors, while contributing to energy security and decarbonisation through cross-border renewable power trade.

Sembcorp and its partners will continue working with authorities and stakeholders in Singapore and Malaysia to advance development studies and obtain the regulatory approvals required to progress the project.
