Sineng Electric Begins 1.1 GW PCS Deliveries for Egypt’s Projects, Including Africa’s Largest Standalone BESS

Sineng Electric has commenced deliveries of its grid-forming central PCS MV turnkey stations for Egypt’s Nefertiti and Horus battery energy storage projects. The first 1.1 GW of equipment shipments is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. Located in Aswan, Nefertiti is Africa’s largest standalone battery energy storage project currently under construction.

The projects align with Egypt’s goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in its electricity mix to more than 42% by 2030. With solar and wind generation expanding, utility-scale battery storage will play an increasingly important role in balancing supply and demand, maintaining grid stability and enabling higher levels of renewable energy integration.

For both projects, Sineng is supplying 12 MW MV turnkey stations incorporating its 1.6 MW central PCS. Equipped with the company’s next-generation grid-forming technology, the solutions provide reliable power conversion and advanced grid support to meet each project’s technical and operational requirements.

Sineng has tailored its solutions to the distinct environmental conditions at each site. In Aswan’s desert region, Nefertiti requires robust thermal management and protection against sand and dust to withstand high temperatures and harsh operating conditions. At Horus, near the Red Sea coast, multiple layers of protection help safeguard equipment against high humidity and salt spray.

Both projects specified grid-forming operation and plant-level black-start capability as core requirements from the initial planning and design stages. With its expertise in grid-forming control algorithms and experience in black-start commissioning on projects worldwide, Sineng has worked closely with the project owner and EPC contractors to develop system-level implementation plans for these functions.

Once commissioned, the facilities are expected to provide peak shaving, frequency regulation and renewable generation smoothing, strengthening the flexibility of Egypt’s electricity system. Grid-forming controls will support voltage and frequency stability, while black-start capabilities will assist in power system restoration following outages. Together, these functions will support greater renewable energy integration and improve the grid’s resilience to disturbances.

The shipments strengthen Sineng’s presence in the energy markets of the Middle East and Africa. With established regional project experience, supply chain capabilities and a local service network, the company will support the delivery of Nefertiti and Horus and provide technical assistance throughout their operating lifecycles.

Through these projects, Sineng is advancing the deployment of grid-forming energy storage to support Egypt’s growing need for flexible, resilient power infrastructure.
