Sineng Electric Supplies Energy Storage Solution to North Africa’s First Utility-Scale Energy Storage Project

Sineng Electric, a global leader in solar and energy storage solutions, has joined forces with Trinasolar to supply its central PCS energy storage solution to the 300MWh Abydos Battery Energy Storage Project in Kom Ombo, Aswan Governorate. It is the first utility-scale energy storage project in Egypt, defining a new era for clean energy deployment in North Africa.

Developed by AMEA Power and constructed by Energy China ZTPC, the 300MWh energy storage facility is a vital expansion of the existing 500MW Abydos solar power plant. By integrating a battery energy storage system (BESS), the project facilitates the efficient management of solar energy and supports Egypt’s vision for a sustainable and diversified energy mix.

The project incorporates Sineng’s 5MW central PCS MV turnkey stations (EH-5000-HA-UD/33). Engineered for efficiency, reliability, and safety, the PCS features advanced thermal management, compatibility with high-power batteries, and multi- layer protection. The innovative design not only improves system performance but also lowers capital expenditures, providing a cost-effective and scalable solution for utility-scale projects.

Zhengmao Jiang, Vice President of Sineng Electric, highlighted the significance of the Abydos project, stating, “The project exemplifies the transformative potential of solar-plus-storage systems in addressing energy challenges. It also marks Sineng Electric’s first shipment of energy storage solutions to the Middle East and Africa, a significant milestone in our global expansion. We are honored to contribute to Egypt’s efforts to advance energy infrastructure, enhance grid stability, and ensure a reliable energy supply.”

As the first utility-scale energy storage project in North Africa, the Abydos initiative enhances energy security, mitigates power outages, and paves the way for a resilient and sustainable energy future. Sineng Electric’s comprehensive product portfolio – spanning both solar and energy storage – positions it as a key player in driving global renewable energy transformation.
