Polish bus maker Solaris will deliver 19 hydrogen fuel cell buses for public transport operations in Krefeld, Germany, due for deployment by 2027.
Nine of the company’s Urbino 12 buses and ten of its larger Urbino 18 will be added to a fleet of ten of the Urbino 12 models, which have been used by transport operator SWK Mobil Krefeld in the city since last year.
The 12-metre and 18-metre variants are powered by 160kW and 240kW fuel cell modules, respectively. The shorter model offers a range of up to 350km, while the longer articulated version exceeds 600km.
As with previous deployments, SWK Mobil Krefled has opted to support fleet management using eSConnect, Solaris’ proprietary data handling tool for assessing fleet performance.
Solaris’ hydrogen-powered bus fleet has been expanding over recent years with commissions from public transport operators including France’s and Italy’s .
It claims to have delivered over 800 hydrogen buses in Europe.
This comes shortly after the German government for the use of renewable fuels of non-biological origin in road mobility under the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive III from 8% to 10% by 2040.
