Sora Fuel raises $14.6m to scale SAF production

US-based sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer Sora Fuel has raised $14.6m to support the build-out of its first production facility.

Sora Fuel uses a direct air capture (DAC) system with an electrolyser to capture CO2 from the air and convert it into synthesis gas, which is then refined into drop-in SAF.

The company says its electrolyser bypasses sorbent regeneration, which is energy-intensive, lowering costs by approximately 90% compared with standard DAC units.

While the company hasn’t confirmed a site for its plant, it hopes to start production within two years.
