A high-level delegation from South Africa visited Egypt this week to gain technical insights into the delivery of large-scale renewable energy projects, according to AMEA Power. The visit was facilitated by the Danish Energy Agency and included representatives from the Department of Electricity and Energy (DEE), the Independent Power Producer Office (IPP Office), the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA), the National Transmission Company South Africa (NTCSA), Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, and Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
As part of the program, the delegation toured AMEA Power’s flagship renewable assets in Egypt: a 500 MW solar PV plant integrated with a 300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Aswan Governorate, and a 500 MW wind power plant in Ras Ghareb, currently the largest operational wind farm in Africa.
The visit highlighted key aspects of the projects, including advanced technologies deployed, stringent safety standards maintained, and the community development and investment initiatives implemented alongside the facilities.
AMEA Power stated that the visit reflects growing international cooperation in renewable energy and underscores the importance of knowledge exchange to support South Africa’s ambitions for large-scale clean energy deployment.
