Spain scales biogas for power and heat with €50m backing

Spain will invest €50m ($58.6m) in grants to help shift its power and heat production plants to use renewable fuel sources rather than fossil fuels, according to the country’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition.

The grants will be supplied through the second round of Renocogen scheme, which is funded by the EU’s NextGeneration recovery fund. 

The scheme supports projects that produce electricity and/or heat from renewable sources in place of natural gas, fuel oil and diesel at cogeneration and waste treatment facilities.

Aid will cover up to 65% of projects costs, with a cap of €15m per project and a minimum investment threshold of €50k.
