Tata Power Mumbai Distribution’s Rooftop Solar Efforts Earn National Recognition as Consumer Invited to Republic Day Parade

Tata Power Mumbai Distribution proudly celebrates a significant milestone in its renewable energy initiatives, as one of its valued consumers, Mr. Vikas Sharad Chandra Pandit from Borivali, has been invited to attend the 2025 Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, as a special guest.

Mr. Pandit, a beneficiary of the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), is among 800 distinguished guests selected nationwide by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to honor early adopters of rooftop solar systems under the scheme. Since installing a 3 kW rooftop solar system in June 2024 through Tata Power Mumbai Distribution, he has achieved energy independence and enjoys zero electricity bills, thanks to the company’s efficient net metering facility.

A leader in sustainable energy, Tata Power Mumbai Distribution has actively implemented the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana across the city. Over 40 residential buildings and housing societies have already joined the initiative, contributing to a cumulative rooftop solar capacity of approximately 24 MW. The company has facilitated these installations while ensuring direct financial benefits to consumers, with subsidies totaling ₹85 lakhs credited so far.

The PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has transformed solar adoption in Mumbai, allowing residents to harness renewable energy while significantly lowering electricity costs. Mr. Pandit’s journey exemplifies the success of this initiative and its alignment with India’s ambitious clean energy goals.

As he and his family prepare to witness the Republic Day Parade, Mr. Pandit’s story serves as an inspiring example of the impact of renewable energy adoption. Tata Power Mumbai Distribution remains committed to empowering consumers with sustainable solutions and driving a cleaner, greener future. Mr.Pandit stated that “ My 2.7 kW rooftop solar system facilitated by Tata Power has been a transformative extremely beneficial for my family. In just six months, it has saved ₹24,000 for us and producing approximately 25 units of clean energy daily. I am grateful to Tata Power and MNRE for recognising my effort and inviting us to the Republic Day celebrations. The entire process for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bifli Yojana was seamless, transparent, and online and was made easy by Tata Power Mumbai Distribution team for us to adopt solar energy. I highly recommend rooftop solar to everyone, including my neighbours, many of whom have sought my guidance after seeing our installation. This is a step toward a sustainable future, and I appeal to everyone to adopt rooftop solar and set an example for others to follow.”
