Terrasmart And ESA Together Complete AdventHealth Canopy Solar Project To Advance Clean Energy

Terrasmart has successfully completed a large-scale canopy solar project at AdventHealth’s corporate campus in Altamonte Springs, Florida, in partnership with national solar and storage developer ESA. AdventHealth, a major faith-based healthcare system operating more than 50 hospital campuses and hundreds of care sites across the United States, is now sourcing approximately one-third of its campus’s electricity needs from solar energy thanks to the new 3 MW photovoltaic system. The installation is expected to generate significant long-term cost savings over $4.6 million across the system’s lifetime.

The project is a key step in supporting AdventHealth’s sustainability goals, including cutting carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and reaching net zero emissions by 2050. The system is projected to offset around 2,900 tons of CO2 annually and will produce approximately 42,000 megawatt-hours of clean electricity over its lifespan, generating enough power each year to supply the equivalent of 550 homes.

Given the site’s location within a developed and densely populated area, the project came with considerable logistical challenges. The campus had limited access points, narrow internal roads, and a laydown yard located nearly a mile from the main worksite. Additionally, construction was impacted by flooding caused by Hurricanes Milton and Helene. Despite these setbacks, the project was completed successfully on a revised schedule that met AdventHealth’s operational needs.

Yury Reznikov, Chief Sales Officer at Terrasmart, stated, “Partnering with ESA on behalf of AdventHealth is a testament to the power of partnership as well as design ingenuity. Installing a multi-canopy system in a populated area instead of an open field exemplifies the adaptability of photovoltaic design, and the continued growth potential of solar energy.”

Their racking systems played a critical role in maximizing performance while meeting both structural and design requirements across rooftop and carport arrays.”

As one of the largest privately owned solar installations in Florida, the project includes 7,500 solar panels installed across a combination of rooftops on four buildings, two multistory parking garages, covered walkways, and parking canopies. Terrasmart provided three custom design solutions — two specifically for garage canopies and one for a surface parking lot.

The project also added 62 electric vehicle charging ports and introduced shaded parking areas for both staff and visitors, enhancing comfort and convenience while promoting clean energy use. The initiative was made possible through close collaboration with ESA, Duke Energy, and the City of Altamonte Springs, and reflects Terrasmart’s deep expertise in designing and delivering complex canopy and parking structure solar systems in challenging environments.
