Thailand’s WHA Utilities and Power Public Company Limited has set up a new subsidiary in Vietnam called WHA Solar Vietnam Company Limited as part of its plan to expand its renewable energy business in the country. According to an early January announcement from WHA Utilities and Power, the new company has a registered capital of VND5.2 billion, which is about $198,000, and all shares are owned by WHAUP (SG) 3 PTE. LTD., a Singapore-based arm of the Thai group. The main purpose of WHA Solar Vietnam is to develop solar power projects and carry out related activities to support Vietnam’s growing clean energy demand.

WHA Group is known as Thailand’s leading developer of industrial estates, logistics facilities, utilities, power services, and digital solutions. The company also operates industrial zones in both Thailand and Vietnam, offering smart and environmentally friendly infrastructure for global manufacturers. The group has been expanding its presence in Vietnam for several years. In January 2025, WHA chairperson Jareeporn Jarukornsakul said the company had already invested $310 million in Vietnam since 2017 and plans to increase the amount to $1 billion in the near future. The formation of WHA Solar Vietnam marks another step in strengthening WHA’s long-term renewable energy strategy in the region.
