Top Stories Of The Day: India Leads RE Growth; SECI-ACME Sign 700 MW Deal; NTPC Floats 960 MWh BESS Tender and More…

India has significantly strengthened its position as a global renewable energy powerhouse, driven by rapid capacity additions, supportive policy frameworks, and increasing energy security initiatives. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) highlighted the country’s remarkable progress in solar, wind, and green hydrogen sectors while emphasizing its commitment to achieving ambitious climate and sustainability goals. These efforts continue to attract investments and reinforce India’s leadership in the global clean energy transition.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has signed a term sheet with ACME Cleantech Solutions for the development of a 700 MW Commercial & Industrial (C&I) renewable energy project. The agreement is expected to support large-scale corporate clean energy procurement while contributing to India’s decarbonization objectives. The project reflects growing demand from industrial consumers seeking reliable and sustainable power solutions.

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) has invited bids for a major battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Rajasthan with a capacity of 240 MW/960 MWh. The project aims to enhance grid flexibility, improve renewable energy integration, and support energy reliability. Large-scale storage infrastructure is increasingly becoming a critical component of India’s strategy to accommodate growing renewable energy penetration.

The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) has approved key regulatory provisions that pave the way for a 20 MW floating solar project in Gorakhpur. The project is expected to optimize water body utilization while generating clean electricity and reducing land-use challenges. The approval marks an important step toward expanding floating solar deployment across the state.

Tata Power has secured a significant transmission infrastructure project in Karnataka that is projected to generate annual revenues of approximately ₹521 crore. The project will strengthen power evacuation capabilities and support the integration of renewable energy into the grid. It also reinforces the company’s growing presence in India’s transmission sector amid rising demand for robust energy infrastructure.

NHPC has issued a tender for the development of power evacuation infrastructure associated with the 1,200 MW Jalaun Solar Park. The transmission facilities will ensure efficient evacuation and delivery of renewable power generated from the project. The move represents another crucial milestone in enabling large-scale solar deployment and strengthening India’s renewable energy ecosystem.

Hexa Climate has signed a 160 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) power purchase agreement with NHPC to provide round-the-clock clean power. The agreement highlights growing interest in reliable renewable energy solutions capable of delivering consistent electricity supply. FDRE projects are increasingly gaining momentum as industries and utilities seek dependable green energy alternatives.

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has closed a petition filed by the Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL) after regulatory clarifications regarding renewable energy project deadline extensions. The decision provides greater certainty for developers and transmission stakeholders while helping streamline project implementation timelines within the renewable energy sector.

According to a CRISIL report, India’s domestic solar cell manufacturing capacity is expected to meet nearly 50% of projected demand by FY27. The Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALCM) framework is accelerating investments in local manufacturing and reducing import dependence. This development signals a strengthening domestic solar supply chain and improved energy self-reliance.

Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) has commissioned a 210 MW solar power project and approached the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) for tariff approval at ₹1.76/kWh. The project further expands Gujarat’s renewable energy portfolio while supporting the state’s clean energy targets. The competitive tariff underscores the continued decline in solar generation costs.

Trom Industries has secured a 17 MW residential rooftop solar project in Bihar, marking another step forward for distributed solar adoption in India. The project will help households access clean energy while reducing electricity costs and dependence on conventional power sources. Rooftop solar continues to play a vital role in India’s decentralized energy transition.

Renewable energy stocks demonstrated resilience on June 19, outperforming the broader market amid investor optimism surrounding India’s clean energy growth story. Strong policy support, ongoing project announcements, and favorable long-term demand outlooks continue to attract market interest. The sector remains a key focus area for investors seeking exposure to the energy transition.
