Trinasolar Advanced N-Type i-TOPCon Technology Gains Momentum in Pakistan with Successful Industrial Solar Projects

Trinasolar, a global leader in smart photovoltaic and energy storage solutions, is offering Pakistan’s industrial sectors advanced, efficient, and cost-effective solar modules with its n-type i-TOPCon technology. As energy demand grows and industries look to control rising costs, TOPCon technology is increasingly recognized as a key driver in Pakistan’s shift to advanced renewable solutions.

According to Yifeng Chen, Vice President of Trinasolar, “TOPCon solar module technology will continue to be the trendsetter in the photovoltaic industry over the next five years.” Supported by insights from InfoLink and other PV industry leaders, Chen’s view reflects the industry-wide consensus that TOPCon has become the mainstream technology and the preferred choice of leading manufacturers. With TOPCon’s market share expected to reach 80% of module shipments next year, this technology is cemented as the PV industry’s top choice due to its high efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability.

Compared to other photovoltaic technologies, TOPCon stands out for its high industrialization rate, superior manufacturing efficiency, and low production costs. Trinasolar’s n-type i-TOPCon Vertex N modules can achieve up to 1% higher cell efficiency and deliver 30W+ additional power output, providing a higher energy yield and greater return on investment for end users. This is particularly valuable in high-temperature areas like Pakistan’s Punjab region, where high-performance modules are beneficial.

Trinasolar is one of the first module manufacturers to mass-produce TOPCon modules and also the first company to manufacture TOPCon modules with power exceeding 700W, meeting Pakistan’s growing demand for high-output solar panels. These high-power, high-efficiency modules enable greater electricity generation per square foot, allowing users to generate more power with fewer panels and thus achieve a lower Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE). For instance, in a typical 500kW commercial and industrial (C&I) solar installation, switching from p-type 670W modules with 21.6% efficiency to n-type 720W modules with 23.2% efficiency results in an additional 37kW of capacity. This upgrade can produce an extra 4,316 kWh monthly, potentially saving businesses approximately 215,800 PKR (based on 50 PKR/kWh), further illustrating TOPCon’s economic value.

Trinasolar’s growing footprint in Pakistan is marked by several successful high-profile installations over the past quarter in multiple sectors, showcasing the technology’s effectiveness in various industrial applications such as the:

  • 202kW solar system at AT-TAHUR Limited (Prema Milk) in Kasur, completed in August 2024. This project generates 283,068 kWh annually with a 75% performance ratio, emphasizing the n-type i-TOPCon Vertex N series’ ability to provide reliable and efficient energy solutions for agribusiness operations.
  • In Lahore, the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) relies on a 1,000kW installation. When completed in December 2024, it will produce 1.39 million kWh annually. This ensures sustainable energy for critical healthcare services.
  • Another Lahore project, Rafiq Gateway Private Limited – Fazal Cold Store, features a 999kW system delivering 1.35 million kWh annually, leveraging bifacial modules for maximum energy output ideal for refrigeration needs.
  • Master Offisys Private Limited installation in Karachi showcases the adaptability of Trinasolar’s n-type i-TOPCon technology for diverse industrial applications. This 423kW solar system, completed in November 2024, will generate 612,815 kWh annually with a 76% performance ratio. The project exemplifies how advanced solar technology can efficiently meet the energy needs of urban manufacturing and office operations.

Feedback from local partners, including Wateen Solutions, a pioneer in Pakistan’s ICT sector with a legacy of more than 20 years, indicates that i-TOPCon’s has higher energy yields, superior performance in low-light conditions, and longevity which makes it the preferred choice for large-scale applications. “Trinasolar’s focus on quality, durability, and efficiency has positioned it as a top choice in Pakistan’s industrial solar market,” commented Sohaib Sipra, Vice President of Energy Solutions, Wateen.

In the face of rising electricity costs, solar installations with Trinasolar’s n-type i-TOPCon technology are proving to be a financially sound investment for Pakistan’s manufacturing and agribusiness sectors. Trinasolar continues to lead the market for TOPCon. On 28 November 2024, the company announced its i-TOPCon Ultra technology, which achieves an efficiency of 26.58% in the laboratory, surpassing 26.5% for the first time in the history of TOPCon cells. With this technology, Trinasolar’s Vertex N modules are set to undergo a significant upgrade, with power increases of up to 40W. i-TOPCon Ultra boosts cell efficiency by more than 1%, and module power rises by up to 40W. The long-term savings in operational costs coupled with reduced degradation rates allow businesses to offset the high cost of energy and gain an edge in competitive industries.
