Trinasolar Powers One of Australia’s Largest Community-Owned Solar-Plus-Storage Projects at Goulburn Community Solar Farm

In a significant development for community-led clean energy, Trinasolar has announced the successful commissioning of a solar-plus-storage project at the Goulburn Community Solar Farm in New South Wales.

The project, regarded as one of Australia’s largest community-owned solar farms, integrates Trinasolar’s Vertex N modules, TrinaTracker mounting systems, and the Elementa 2 battery energy storage system (BESS). The facility began exporting electricity to the grid on March 21, 2026.

With a capacity of 1.4 MW, the installation comprises 2,300 high-efficiency bifacial n-type i-TOPCon modules and a 4.07 MWh battery system. The project is expected to generate approximately 2,400 MWh of renewable electricity annually across the 2.2-hectare site.

Developed by the Goulburn Community Energy Cooperative, the solar farm marks the culmination of over a decade of planning, fundraising, and regulatory approvals. The cooperative, formally established in 2020, is backed by more than 200 community members.

Industry stakeholders highlight that the project underscores the growing importance of integrated solar-plus-storage solutions in Australia’s evolving energy landscape. By sourcing modules, trackers, and battery systems from a single provider, the project reduces interface risks, streamlines deployment, and simplifies long-term operations and maintenance.

According to Edison Zhou, Group Director for Australia, New Zealand, and Pakistan at Trinasolar Asia Pacific, the project demonstrates how integrated systems can enhance efficiency and provide a single point of support as renewable installations scale in complexity.

The inclusion of battery storage addresses a key challenge in the National Electricity Market, where midday solar generation often leads to lower electricity prices. By storing excess energy and dispatching it during peak demand periods, the system enables improved revenue optimization.

Beyond its technical and economic benefits, the project also delivers social impact. A portion of the annual profits will be allocated to a community fund aimed at addressing energy poverty in Goulburn, ensuring that the financial benefits of the project are reinvested locally.

The commissioning of the Goulburn Community Solar Farm highlights a broader shift toward community-driven renewable energy models, reinforcing Australia’s transition toward a more sustainable and decentralized energy future.
