Turkish energy company Botas has signed a deal with US liquefied natural gas (LNG) company Argent LNG to set up a supply framework from its Port Fourchon LNG site in Louisiana to Türkiye.
Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the partnership has laid out ambitions to scale US LNG distribution across Türkiye and wider Europe.
It is believed the pair could establish Türkiye as a “regional energy anchor” amid ongoing geopolitical instability in the Middle East and global LNG supply chain disruption.
The announcement follows a report from the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), stating that the US could supply 80% of European LNG imports by 2028, overtaking Norway to become .
Botas has signed several deals with US LNG suppliers over recent years.
In May 2024, the company agreed to receive up to from global gas company ExxonMobil in the US for 10 years.
In September 2025, it also signed an agreement with Swiss energy company Mercuria to import around 70 billion cubic meters of US LNG over 20 years.
