UltraTech Commissions India’s First 7.5 MW On-Site Hybrid Round-The-Clock Renewable Energy Project At Sewagram, Gujarat In Collaboration With Gentari

UltraTech Cement Limited, India’s largest cement and ready-mix concrete company, has commissioned a 7.5 MW round-the-clock (RTC) hybrid renewable energy project at its Sewagram Cement Works in Gujarat. The project combines solar power using bifacial modules with trackers, wind energy, and battery storage, all co-located on-site, to provide uninterrupted power for cement manufacturing without relying on the grid. The initiative was implemented in collaboration with clean energy solutions company Gentari.

Installed as a behind-the-meter system, this project is India’s first of its kind in the industrial sector, highlighting the potential of advanced energy system integration for reducing emissions and optimising energy costs at scale. Designed to ensure continuous clean energy supply, the project sets a new benchmark in India’s clean energy transition, demonstrating the benefits of customer-led design and integrated engineering solutions.

UltraTech Cement is using renewable energy as a key component of its decarbonisation strategy, aligned with its goal to achieve Net Zero by 2050. In the financial year 2025, the company became one of the first industrial firms in India to commission 1 GW of renewable energy capacity for captive use. UltraTech plans to increase the share of green energy in its total power mix to 65% by 2027 and 85% by 2030.

As part of its RE100 commitment, the company aims to source 100% of its electricity requirements from renewable sources by 2050. The Sewagram hybrid project demonstrates how integrating multiple renewable energy sources with storage can provide reliable, round-the-clock power for energy-intensive industrial operations, while supporting India’s broader clean energy and climate goals.
