Zecon Awards RM328 Million EPCC Contract For 100 MW Agrivoltaic Solar Project In Sarawak

Zecon Berhad has awarded a RM328 million engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract to its wholly owned subsidiary, Zecon Renewables Sdn Bhd, for the development of a 100 MW agrivoltaic solar photovoltaic project at the Kota Petra Green Technology Park in Sarawak. The contract was issued by Zecon Renewables (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, another subsidiary within the group that serves as the independent power producer (IPP) for the project.

Under the agreement, Zecon Renewables Sdn Bhd will be responsible for the complete execution of the project. The scope of work includes the construction of the main solar photovoltaic plant, installation of grid connection facilities, extensive site preparation and earthworks, and the construction of a 130-metre bridge across the Serai River. These works are expected to establish the core infrastructure required for the renewable energy facility.

The 100 MW agrivoltaic solar project represents the first major construction phase of the Kota Petra Green Technology Park. The development marks an important milestone as the park moves from the planning and approval stage into active construction. As the flagship renewable energy project within the park, it is expected to create a strong foundation for future commercial development while attracting clean technology companies and industrial investors to the site.

Zecon Renewables (Sarawak) holds a 30-year electricity generation licence issued by Sarawak’s Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication. In October 2025, the company also signed a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Syarikat Sesco Berhad, a subsidiary of Sarawak Energy Berhad. Under the agreement, the company will design, build, own, operate, and maintain the solar facility while supplying the electricity generated to Sarawak’s power grid. The project is scheduled to begin commercial operations by December 31, 2027.

The long-term power purchase agreement is expected to provide stable and predictable revenue, supporting the financing, construction, and long-term operation of the project. Looking beyond the initial phase, Zecon also has approval under its existing licence to develop an additional 300 MW of solar capacity. The company plans to use this future capacity to supply renewable electricity directly to industrial tenants within the green technology park, supported by battery energy storage systems and grid power. The project is expected to strengthen Zecon’s recurring income while supporting Sarawak’s renewable energy and sustainable development objectives.
