Huasun and Next2Sun Highlight Innovation and Investment Potential of HJT Vertical PV at BNEF Summit Munich 2025

On May 20, Huasun Energy, the global leader in heterojunction (HJT) solar technology, hosted a dedicated keynote roundtable at the BloombergNEF Summit 2025 in Munich, highlighting the expanding role of its Kunlun series HJT modules in vertical photovoltaic (PV) applications worldwide.

The session featured expert insights from Christian Comes, Director of Business Development Europe at Huasun Energy, and Peter Bendix, Head of Business Development at Next2Sun—a recognized pioneer in vertical photovoltaics and Huasun’s exclusive European partner in advancing HJT applications within this niche. Together, they explored how vertical PV systems are transforming energy deployment across agriculture, buildings, and transportation infrastructure.

Peter Bendix outlined Germany’s evolving electricity market, highlighting the growing appeal of vertical PV systems due to their dual-peak energy output, which aligns with morning and evening demand. As subsidies for negative pricing phases out, this solution offers both economic and grid-balancing benefits. He also noted the expanding partnership between Next2Sun and Huasun to deliver scalable, low-maintenance vertical PV solutions.

Christian Comes followed with a technical deep dive into Huasun’s innovations in HJT module design, including AR-coated glass, bifacial light-conversion films, butyl edge sealing, and optimized frame and junction box configurations. These enhancements enable both portrait and landscape installations, improving adaptability and land-use efficiency in vertical PV deployments.

Drawing on data from a case study in Bavaria, Munich, Christian shared that vertical PV systems using Huasun’s Kunlun series HJT modules achieved an internal rate of return (IRR) of 15.1%, significantly outperforming comparable TOPCon systems. In the context of market-based electricity pricing, this underscores HJT as a low-risk and high-yield investment.

This roundtable session attracted leading experts across the energy sector, reinforcing HJT’s rapid rise and vast potential in vertical PV applications. For Huasun, the roundtable marked not only a platform for technology exchange, but also a step forward in expanding strategic partnerships and accelerating the global adoption of advanced HJT solutions.
