Avangrid Launches 2025 Summer Internship Program To Train The Next Generation Of Industry Leaders

Avangrid, Inc., a leading energy company and a member of the Iberdrola Group, has officially launched its 2025 Summer Internship Program. This year, the company is welcoming 71 interns from more than 50 universities across the United States and internationally, including participants from Spain and Mexico. These interns will be based in Avangrid offices located in New York, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Oregon. They will be working across 20 different departments, such as Information Technology, Communications, and Networks, gaining exposure to a wide range of business functions within the energy sector.

The program began on June 2 and is designed to support the professional development of students by helping them build key skills for their future careers. Interns will be trained in areas like analytical thinking, project coordination, and workplace resilience. New interns will take part in interactive sessions focused on building practical, job-ready abilities, while returning interns will further enhance their learning through dedicated speaker sessions featuring senior leaders who share insights from their own professional experiences.

Pedro Azagra, CEO of Avangrid, “At Avangrid, attracting and nurturing emerging talent is one of our key priorities. Our internship program is designed to help students strengthen their skills and gain real-world experience before entering the workforce. Through workshops, speaker sessions, and peer networking events like Cohort Connects, we aim to equip them with the tools they need for a successful, differentiated and fulfilling career.”

Ignacio Estella, Senior Vice President for Talent & Performance, Innovation and Equal Opportunity, stated, “Offering this unique internship experience to students across the nation is essential. Our goal is to ‘electrify’ talent with solid career opportunities in the transformational energy sector with a local and global leader, and to showcase the differentiated career paths that Avangrid can offer to the next generation of professionals.”

“Being part of this program has already been an incredible opportunity. Even in just the first week, I’ve felt both welcomed and inspired. I’m beginning to understand not only the energy industry, but also how to grow as a professional. It’s exciting to be part of a company that truly values sustainability, innovation, and its people,” commented June Monasterios, a rising senior at Gannon University and an intern in the Internal Audit team.

Avangrid’s Internship Experience is structured around the 70/20/10 learning model, which is aimed at maximizing intern development. According to this model, 70 percent of learning happens through meaningful, hands-on projects that contribute to the company’s goals. Another 20 percent comes from building relationships with mentors, peers, and team leaders, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. The remaining 10 percent involves formal training through workshops and leadership presentations. At the end of the program, interns will present a five-minute pitch summarizing their work and accomplishments. This final presentation often becomes a stepping stone to future opportunities within the company, including full-time positions or entry into Avangrid’s Rotational Graduate Program.
