Conquering ‘last mile’ medical oxygen needs with O2 Cubes

A staggering 5 billion people – over 60% of the world’s population – lack access to safe, affordable medical oxygen services according to the Lancet Global Health Commission.

In the latest 1895 podcast, Mark Adkins, Founder and CEO of oxygen production innovator LeanMed reflects on the critical issue of medical oxygen accessibility, and ongoing challenges faced by healthcare facilities in low to middle-income countries (LMICs).

He shares his insights into the barriers to oxygen access, LeanMed’s current projects in Nigeria and Uganda, and the future plans for scaling production, which are designed to tackle the .

“Some of the most significant are a lack of grid electricity – it’s either non-existent, unreliable or very expensive,” he said. “The second major obstacle is the roads – you need only go 100 miles out of city centres and the only way they get the oxygen to these hospitals is transporting big tanks on diesel trucks.”
